This open water swimming camp is a combination of the swimming coaching knowledge of Rafa Aledo, Level 3 Total Immersion Coach and Karen Parnell Level 3 British Triathlon Federation and IRONMAN Certified Coach.

So, whether you are training for a triathlon or a long distance open water swim this camp is for you!

ABILITY LEVEL: This camp is aimed at swimmers with some experience in open water swimming

3 DAY PRICE: €499 (£449) per person

Based on room share (2 people per room) or private room* in a Spanish villa with private pool or authentic

Andalusian Spanish townhouse B&B.

*There is the option to have your own private room for 30€ (£27) per night single occupancy supplement.

Want to stay longer? Extra nights are just 50€ (£45) per night for an en-suite room with breakfast.

This exclusive camp is limited to 8 swimmers, fully coached in the amazing town of Cómpeta, Costa del Sol, Spain. If you are interested, we recommend booking by the end of April to avoid disappointment.


COURSE OBJECTIVE: Improve the swimming efficiency of the participants, as well as your strategies to face your long distance open water swimming events or triathlon races.

Human swimmers are energy-wasting machines: typically, we convert only 3% of energy into forward motion. (Dolphins convert 80% and even elite swimmers like Michael Phelps convert only 9%!) Dolphins move through water, humans move water around, so swimming farther or harder, as traditional programs advise, will only make your 'struggling skills' more permanent. The fastest, smartest way to increase your endurance or speed is to reduce energy waste.


During the camps you'll learn the three foundation skills of effortless distance swimming:


Become 'weightless' by learning to cooperate with gravity instead of fighting it. Learning balance transforms struggle into smoothness and calms churning legs. It also brings the body control and mental calm necessary to learn every skill that follows.


Learn to move through water, rather than move it around, by:

Shaping your body to be longer, better aligned, more hydrodynamic and Stroking in ways that minimise waves and turbulence.
Slippery swimming means that you travel farther and easier on each stroke.


Replace churning with effortless power by connecting arm and leg actions to rhythmic, relaxed weight shifts initiated in the core. Instead of generating muscular force you’ll direct 'available' forces of body mass and gravity.

We will teach you to do this in three steps:

  • Personalise Stroke Length. Find your optimal range of stroke counts (SPL range) for pool practice based on your height and skill characteristics.
  • Adapt Stroke Length. Learn to make strategic use of each stroke count in your personal range to swim farther or faster with minimum strain and maximum ease.
  • Blend Stroke Length and Rate. Learn to use a Tempo Trainer in combination with your personal range of stroke counts to create sustainable speed - the easiest way to maintain consistent pace for any distance and smart speed - the easiest way to increase pace.

This approach replaces one-size-fits-all workouts with practice that is completely personalised and will bring a mathematical specificity and predictability to your practice planning and set design. This session will also include a video analysis session.

Your safety is very important to us, so swimming is done with a tow float, kayak support and we cover every swimmer with our comprehensive insurance, but it is necessary to ensure you have your own travel and health insurance.

Wetsuits and swim buoys/tow floats are compulsory so please plan to bring this with you.


Thursday 23rd, Arrival and welcome at the facilities of ChiliTri in Cómpeta

13:00 to 15:30 Welcome by Karen Parnell and Rafael Aledo, to explain the objectives of the camp, the camp itinerary and gifts for the participants.

Technical analysis of the best Olympic swimmers and how to adapt their technique to master swimmers by Rafa

Break 15:30 to 16:00

16:30 to 19:00 Initial Session in the 25m pool with video recording, by Karen and Rafa

19:30 to 20:30 Session of individual video analysis feedback for each participant by Rafa and Karen

Free evening to explore the beautiful white washed village of Cómpeta.

Friday   24th,

Morning:  Breakfast

9:00 to 12:00 Travel to the coast to swim in the clear water of Nerja. Putting in to practice the techniques we have learnt.  After the swim you can enjoy Tapas in a beach side bar, a wonderful setting for both the swim and tapas!. We can offer swims from 1.5km to 9km to meet your race and camp needs.


15:00 to 16:00 Strength and Conditioning for swimmer’s session at Chili gym with Karen

16:30 to 19:00 Swimming pool session on an individual basis. Rafa and Karen will analyse your

swim stroke and give guidance on how to improve your swim efficiency.

20:30 Group BBQ at the Villa or Pizza night at a local restaurant.

Saturday 25th, Morning, after breakfast

7:30 Technical meeting to explain the open water training session,

Travel to the coast

8:30 a.m. to 12:00 Open water training.

The swimming distances would be between 2km and 10km depending on your needs and level, with or without wetsuit (wetsuit is however advisable), where we will cover the Nerja coastline, with a great variety of stunning views. You get to put in to practice your new skills.

12:30 Lunch and Farewell drinks & close.

The price includes all coaching, accommodation, video analysis and feedback and all transfers to the training venues whilst on the camps and will cost 455€ (£399). NOTE: Itinerary may change subject to weather conditions and/or venue availability.

Airport transfer, evening meals (except the BBQ/Pizza night) and lunches are not included.

Wetsuits are compulsory.


Rafa Aledo Vives

Rafa Aledo is the director of Natura Sports Centre in Alicanta and a Level 3 Total Immersion swimming coach.

Natura Sport is Sports centre specializing in health sports such as triathlon, swimming, fitness and padel.

The facility has two swimming pools, padel courts and a well-appointed gym.

Rafa studied at UA - Universitat d'Alacant / Universidad de Alicante.

Karen Parnell

Karen Parnell is the owner and Head Coach of Chili Tri in Andalucia, Southern Spain.

I am a keen triathlete and have competed in events in the US, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Spain and the UK.

My passion is to motivate, guide and coach people to achieve their own health, fitness and race goals.

I help people to meet their goals via personalised training programs, coaching, nutritional advice, guidance,

encouragement and motivation – a truly holistic approach.
Karen is a Level 3 British Triathlon Federation Coach and Tutor, IRONMAN Certified Coach and Personal Trainer.

I am also an ASA open water coach and specialise in Bike FTP testing, Stryd running power & gait analysis

and Swim video analysis.
I have a degree in Electronics and during my time in engineering was lucky enough to work with companies

such as Polar, Apple, Sony, LG and Samsung on health and fitness connected products. I’m still a great advocate

and user of this technology and use them in my athlete testing and training room here at Chili Tri. I use technology from Garmin, Stryd, Arion, Milestone, Elite, PowerTap, Info Crank and others to capture FTP, run power, efficiency over the swim, bike and run. This data is extremely useful to help athletes reach their full potential.
